Sutton Courtenay (National Power) Trust Registered Charity 1075049

A village charity, since 1999

Helping the people and organisations of Sutton Courtenay.

We make grants to individuals living in Sutton Courtenay and to organisations working for the benefit of the civil parish — supporting hardship, education, recreation, and the everyday life of the village.

Who we are

An endowment for the village, in perpetuity.

The Sutton Courtenay (National Power) Trust was established in 1999 with a substantial donation from National Power — the then-operator of Didcot Power Station, now part of RWE — as a recognition of the village that had hosted the station for decades. The Trust holds those funds in perpetuity and uses them to make grants for the benefit of the people and organisations of Sutton Courtenay.

The Trust is a registered charity in England and Wales, regulated by the Charity Commission. It is governed by a body of Trustees — drawn from the Sutton Courtenay community and serving voluntarily — and supported by a Clerk who handles correspondence and administration.

The current Trustees are listed on the Charity Commission's public register, alongside the Trust's annual accounts and reports.

What we do

Three areas in which the Trustees consider applications.

i.

Personal hardship

Individuals living in Sutton Courtenay who are experiencing financial hardship or distress. All applications are considered in confidence.

ii.

Education & recreation

Individuals living in the village seeking support for education, training, recreation, or other charitable purposes that benefit them and the wider community.

iii.

Local organisations

Groups, clubs, and charities based in Sutton Courtenay that operate for the benefit of the civil parish and its residents.

Eligibility, in short: individual applicants must live in the civil parish of Sutton Courtenay. Organisations must be based in the parish and operate for its benefit. Applications from individuals are kept in strict confidence — seen only by the Trustees and the Clerk.

The Trustees do not normally fund activities outside the parish, costs already incurred, partisan political activity, or work that conflicts with the Trust's charitable purposes.

“The Trust exists to put resources back into the village that hosted the power station — quietly, locally, and where they will do most good.”
— Trustees of the Sutton Courtenay (National Power) Trust
